The History of STS. PETER & PAUL School
Sts. Peter & Paul School opened its doors in August 1908 with less than 50 in kindergarten through grade eight. Built on hundreds of years of tradition in American Catholic education, Sts. Peter & Paul School began forging its own identity in the Appalachian community of Wellston, Ohio, where a school in the Catholic tradition had never previously existed.
Sts. Peter & Paul School remains in the original building, built in 1907 to house both church and school temporarily. However, over 100 years later, the school and church both remain with the upper level consisting of five classrooms and the media center and the lower level the school office and church.
110 years later, Sts. Peter & Paul School is now home to over 120 students in preschool through grade eight.
Accreditation and Awards
Sts. Peter & Paul School is accredited by the Ohio Catholic Schools Accrediting Association. As an accredited school, Sts. Peter & Paul uses its continuous school improvement plan as a guide for professional development and school growth. Currently, a student learning goal dealing with emphasis on strengthening critical thinking skills and a Catholic identity goal addressing the discipleship and community are the focus of this work. Periodic progress reviews assist the administration in both fulfilling the requirements of the plan and assessing its effectiveness.
Sts. Peter & Paul School has 102 students enrolled in grade K through grade 8 as of October 31, 2018.
Since 1908, we have led the effort to provide the highest quality education in Appalachia Ohio. Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic School serves children of all faiths, emphasizing academic achievement, the Catholic faith, and spiritual formation, throughout Southern Ohio.
